Sleep Training Baby – When is it time?
December 15th, 2009When is it too early to sleep train your baby?
There are many different beliefs on how to raise a happy, well rested baby. My theory is this. If the baby consumes more than 25 ounces a food during the day and weights over 12 pounds than it is ok to let them begin to skip a nighttime feed. This is usually around three months of age.
The more the baby eats at night the more their body gets used to waking to eat. The longer you go feeding this crave the harder, and louder, baby will get when you try to break the cycle.
My suggestion is actually time the amount of time it takes for baby to cry and fall back to sleep for 3 nights in a row. Typically you will see it is not as bad as you think when you see it on paper. A well rested baby and parent is the result of sleep training your baby.
As always, consult a physician before doing anything.
